Having An Attitude of Gratitude Is Not So Bad

It's been a while since anything's been added to this blog so I'm going to start it back up again. I'm gonna start with gratitude.

According to dictionary.com, the definition of Gratitude is “the quality or feeling of being grateful or thankful”.

Everyone has something to be grateful and/or thankful for. If you can’t think of anything then you’re thinking too hard. It doesn’t have to be a major accomplishment. But it does have to be personal.

Challenge of the month:

Write three things you are grateful for every day for the next 30 days – in a journal or on an electronic device. The challenge is in making sure they are all personal and different.

So what does “personal” mean?

“I am grateful for my significant other” is not personal. That’s very general. Making it personal means writing something specific about the person you’re grateful for.

“I am grateful for the joy that <insert name here> brings into my life.”

No two can be the same. So you should have 90 things you are grateful for by the end of the 30 days.

In addition to writing down three things you are grateful for, try going out of your comfort zone with the following weekly challenges:

Week 1 (Starting Dec 3): When you find yourself in an unfavorable situation ask: What can I learn? When I look back on this, without emotion, what will I be grateful for?

Week 2 (Starting Dec 10): Everyday, give at least one person a compliment.

Week 3 (Starting Dec 17): Vow to not complain, criticize, or gossip. If you slip, just get back on the wagon and keep going. Take note of how much energy you spend on negative thoughts.

Week 4 (Starting Dec 24): Turn a negative into a positive. Now when you catch yourself thinking or saying something negative, take a step back “look on the bright side”. And, YES, there’s always a bright side. Also, be careful how you use the word “should”. For example: Instead of saying “I should be fit by now”. Say “I have come a long way”.

If you get to the end, congrats! But don't stop. Having an attitude of gratitude helps you become an overcomer.
